Making Sure That Your House Is Well-Protected From Robbers

By Donna S. Erickson

When you leave your home for vacation, you need to assure yourself that your home is burglar free. There is no need for such high-tech burglar alarm system if you are careful enough to handle the situation. The following are tips for you to set your home up for protection without the use of any gadgets.

Make sure you have cancelled subscriptions from magazines and newspapers while you are away. There might be chances that burglars will be able to tell that you are away when all the newspapers are left outside your home.

If you really want someone to check up on your mail, you can ask your neighbor to pick them up for you while you are away. This way, you can still throw off some burglars and collect the mail and magazines you have subscribed later on.

If you have to, you can leave your car in the garage so that you will not be able to give signs to burglars that you are away. You can commute or hire a taxi when you go for a vacation or you can rent a car.

Try to ask a friend if he can stay at your place for the time being. This will obviously help in the security of your home especially if there are important things that need protection. Having someone you trust over at your home while you are away puts peace on your mind.

Make sure that you plug off your landline and turn off your answering machine while you are gone. Having your answering machine on without anyone answering it will give burglars the idea that nobody is inside your home at the moment.

Try not to talk about your vacation in public places. You might want to tone down your conversations with your friends at public places especially if it involved you leaving town. It is much better that you keep your plans to yourself first.

Protect your home and your property by making sure all of the windows and doors are locked when you go out. Seal off all places that might be crawled under. Replace old locks that might break off with new ones.
