How Web Savy Surfers Search For People

By Bob Bushwell

Over time people drift apart: We move, get angry about some incident and stop communicating, end romantic relationship, graduate, or serve in the military then get discharged and lose contact. This seems to be the way life goes. Later, we begin to wonder What ever happened to WhatsHisName?. The Web with it's social networking sites are a good place to look. Of course, one should not skip the easy, fast way for searching for people. Using Google.

Before starting an online search for people it is a good idea to keep a pen and paper at hand. Old school? Sure is. And, very effective. When using Google search make sure to use ALL the information about the individual you can think of. Start the search for someone by using their name. Then, try the name and the last city or town where they lived. Keep notes on any promising hits. As you gather this information, a solid direction to find someone may appear.

Next, if the person you are searching for has or did have a title, enter their name and title such as Capt. Smith or Dr. Smith and see if that takes you anywhere with a Google search. When searching Google for people, it often really helps if you know what business the person was pursuing. Business directories are a great source for finding contact information, especially in the sales and services area. Again, keep your hand written notes up date as you search.

Finding someone's parents is often a good way to locate someone. Older people tend to maintain the same residence for a long time. If you can remember anything about the parents of someone you are searching for, it can really help. Try a Google search for the parents. Once you find someone's parents you have an excellent chance of getting the contact information for whomever you are trying to find.

As previously mentioned, searching the largest social networks will often help you locate people you are searching for. There is Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, of course, but there are other, less obvious social networks you can search. There are several websites for helping you find ex-military people; if the person you seek went to college (especially if they graduated), then there are college alumni and college record offices. There are also numerous websites for finding college and high school friends, however, most require a fee to access their services.

If you are serious about searching for people, then doing some additional searches on other search engines would be in order. Check out Bing, Ask.com, Yahoo and so forth.

Now, while doing a search for people, you will find numerous sites offering you the opportunity to search for someone using their paid service. This is not a bad way to save yourself hours of work, especially if you already have someone's name, a previous address or phone number. Below is a link 'Search For People' which will take you to a very effective, inexpensive people search site. Another link below 'Find Someone' will take you to a resource page for finding anyone.

Keep in mind that when doing a paid service search of public records a good search idea is to find the parents. Once you find someone's parents it is usually easy to locate family members. Our Search For People link will take you to a site that offers unlimited searches for a small membership fee. Good luck finding whomever you are looking for.
