The Ideosyncracies That Make The Best After Dinner Speaker At Conferences

By John Winter

From personal experience, I can say that I have been audience to all sorts of different kinds of speakers. For instance an after dinner speaker at a dinner party, as the name suggests, usually speaks right after the main program and meal. It will not make sense to give a talk before the guest has been entertained and their stomachs are full. I've also noticed that there are different speaking styles used in order to get and keep an audience's attention. Furthermore, this is the core reason for such speakers to come by. A speaker ought to be able to entertain or keep the audience interested in order to be considered an effective one.

There are a number of things which should be found in a speaker if the after dinner talk should hit its target. The speaker has first of all been well prepared to deliver the talk. In order to deliver an informative and interesting speech, the speaker has to have done good research on the topic. There is no one who would like to sit down too listen to some non factual talk. Likewise, it will also help the speaker if he knows firsthand the type of audience he will be delivering the talk to. It will be an absurd to use some olden day's ways of expressing some points when the audience is the current young generation. So it is crucial again not to go about some of the recent technologies and terms while addressing a crowd dominated by the old age. Obviously a speaker should be able to find the balance when speaking to a mixed audience.

It's important to involve your audience in the discussion, and that you can drive the point home. Since the speech is usually delivered after dinner, there's a large chance that the audience will easily get sleepy if the speaker isn't very interactive. Keeping the audience interested in the speech is an important thing to keep in mind. It's important to make sure that the point is driven across to the audience and one way of making sure this happens is keeping the audience captivated. No one would want a speaker who seems to be talking to a small part of the audience.

After dinner speakers can be sure to get the audience's attention by injecting humour into the speech. Aside from being an interesting addition to any speech, humour can also make speakers more interactive. There are a number of styles which can be employed to attain the necessary humour. Some stories between the talk, some light jokes, associating the current events to the message.

As a last point, every successful after dinner speaker will need to be eloquent and proficient in speaking. If a speaker wants the audience to pay attention, he needs to set the right tone for the speech. Of course speakers aren't infallible, but the best ones are willing to own up and correct previous mistakes.
