The Main Causes Of Child Obesity

By Darryl Jones

The truth cannot be avoided. Human beings as a race are becoming fatter, which is having catastrophic and detrimental effects on our lives as we age. It is a terrible thing to consider, but the kind of foods people feed their children is having a major effect on what happens to them as they grow old, and is prime amongst the many causes of child obesity.

There was a time when children were fit and healthy, and considered lithe. Fifty years ago, for example, most children would be able to complete simple athletic tests with decent stamina and performance. Repeated today, those kinds of things would find kids to be terribly unfit and overweight.

However, what is it that has resulted in the increase in children's unhealthiness? What are the long term effects that will happen to these same children in the future? To find out, people need to look at a wider range of things happening in the globe.

There can be no mistake about it: we have become more complacent as a group of people. Whereas in the past people would have to walk to work and stores, they now rely on cars and taxis to take them there. This removes a significant section of exercise from a person's day.

Even something as simple as television watching has been totally changed. Fifty years ago, those watching television programs would have had to have stood up and walked over to the television set in order to change the channel. Today, the remote control has removed the need to do that. There is an increasingly sedentary lifestyle which is taking hold across the globe.

Simply put, the incredibly good inventions that many people have come up with have made people lazier. This means that the average person does not get to work out quite as much as they previously would. It happens to children, too: they now prefer to play on a Playstation than go outside and play.

Still worse, the average person's daily diet has become terrible, in comparison to what it once was. Calorie laden meals which can be microwaved in minutes have replaced the standard fresh fare which people once ate regularly. When this fat heavy diet is combined with general lack of exercise, it is evident what the causes of child obesity are. They have to sort out extenuating circumstances to make sure that people are healthy again.
